Weight loss can simultaneously be a vastly rewarding and often frustrating experience; it requires constant and consistent effort, but the end result is a healthier, happier body. But, during any diet and exercise routine, people may notice they seemingly stopped making progress without reason. This is a common occurrence, and there are several different weight-loss strategies to break a plateau and get back on track.

Experiment With Your Diet

A person’s weight loss journey succeeds and fails based on their diet; more so than exercise, what you eat determines how much you gain or lose. When you find a diet you like—something that gives you energy while not going over your calorie limit—you tend to stick with it. This can be detrimental, however. The human body is highly adaptable; given enough time, it will acclimate to anything. This can be the case when you seem to hit a plateau in your diet. Your body simply processes the food differently due to regular consumption.

Mix It Up

Many people find success by temporarily switching up their diet; one popular diet includes keto. But these types of changes are not without their concerns; be aware of what keto can do to the body and whether it will be a net positive towards your overall health.

Increase In Exercise

As we touched on, losing weight comes mostly from your diet, but that doesn’t mean you should underestimate the power of exercise. Dieting will get you far, but it’s also necessary to mix in physical exercise as well. The body will release chemicals in reaction to physical activity, increasing the production and improving the regulation of hormones.

Consider Your Stress Levels

While many people see stress as a mental state, it can have adverse physical effects on the body that can slow down bodily processes and create chemical imbalances. Because of how serious stress can alter the hormonal makeup of the body, it’s essential that you identify the stressors in your life. Your body reacts to taxing experiences by releasing cortisol into the bloodstream, which is a hormone that can relieve stress but also makes it harder to get rid of fat.

Find Ways To Relax

You need to discover what stresses you out and what can help you relax and get comfortable. The less you have to worry about, the less cortisol your body creates. A sudden decrease in weight loss progress can happen when you hit rough patches in life but will correct itself when life’s issues settle down.

Know What Your Body Needs

Not every solution is ideal for everyone; you need to understand how your body reacts to stimuli and what creates more problems than it solves. When you’re looking for ways to break through a weight-loss plateau, try a few different things and experiment with different methods. Find what works and what hurts.
