Common Reasons Why You Have a Stomachache and Bloating

Having stomach pain is never a fun experience. It can hinder your mood and prevent you from being productive. It’s especially heartbreaking when you have to cancel plans you were looking forward to due to your discomfort.

The last thing you want is to have to hang over the porcelain throne the whole day, so finding out the common reasons why you have a stomachache or bloating might help you recover faster. So get that heating pad and glass of ginger soda ready; you’ll thank yourself for it later.

Menstrual Pains and Symptoms

After a pretty typical day, you suddenly feel significant discomfort in your lower intestines and uterus. That only means the possibility of your hormones kicking into gear. PMS—or premenstrual syndrome—is one of the common reasons why you have a stomachache and bloating. PMS symptoms begin around 5 to 11 days before menstruation and fade away once your cycle starts. They can come from either ovulation, when the egg is released from the ovaries, or when bleeding occurs. A great way to combat these pains is by moving your body and taking medication. You can move around by doing Pilates or other kinds of physical exercise while staying hydrated to reduce inflammation.

Allergies and Intolerances

Sometimes stomach pain and bloating can stem from the food you recently ate. Whether or not you knew you had a food intolerance, feeling uncomfortable after eating a delicious treat can significantly hinder your mood. The pain could come from dairy, gluten, or any other kind of intolerance you may have. Additionally, allergies to specific ingredients can cause acid reflux, constipation, or general stomach discomfort.

Taking antiacids or drinking a bubbly beverage can alleviate the pain. You can also consume ginger-based remedies or chew gum to neutralize the acidity in your mouth and throat.

Improper Diet and Infection

At times, eating the same food can cause more harm than good. Even if you don’t have any food allergies or intolerances, foods such as dairy can cause constipation and acne breakouts. Other foods that don’t contain a lot of fiber can also cause further stomach pain and bloating issues. Consume plenty of fiber and water to assist digestion.

Foodborne illnesses can also cause stomach issues, and the last thing you want is to deal with the effects of Cyclospora during a busy week. Some ways to prevent foodborne illness are to make sure you cook your food thoroughly and to clean your cooking surfaces and tools.

As long as you have a proper diet and take care of yourself, stomach pain and bloating will slowly dissipate over time. Keeping yourself healthy and in good shape will further you toward your goals.
